A Destination Host is an experienced professional tour guide who helps travelers experience a destination beyond the typical tourist attractions. Your Host may introduce you to local neighborhoods, traditions, history, food, and everyday life while personalizing the experience around your interests and pace.
Traditional tours often follow a predetermined itinerary or group schedule. An Upon Arrival Travel experience will be shaped around the individual traveler. Destination Hosts combine professional tour-guide experience with a more personal, flexible approach to exploring and connecting with a destination.
Upon Arrival Travel is being designed for people who want a more personal way to explore. This may include solo travelers, business travelers, older travelers, first-time international travelers, couples, and people celebrating special occasions.
Absolutely. Upon Arrival Travel is intended to complement your trip, not control it. You will maintain the independence to travel on your own while having the option to spend part of your journey with a trusted local professional.
Experiences are expected to last approximately two to six hours, depending on the traveler’s preferences and the experience being planned. Additional details will be available when traveler services officially launch.
Experienced professional tour guides with strong local knowledge, excellent communication skills, and an interest in creating personal, customized experiences are encouraged to apply. Professional tour-guide experience is required.
Requirements vary by destination. If your local laws or regulations require tour guides to maintain a license, certification, permit, or other credential, you must hold the appropriate current qualifications to be considered.
Destination Hosts spend time with travelers and help them experience the destination through local knowledge, cultural insight, and personal connection. This may include exploring neighborhoods, visiting historic or cultural sites, sharing local traditions, enjoying a meal, or creating an experience based on the traveler’s interests.
Destination Hosts offer a more personalized experience. Rather than delivering the same itinerary to every traveler, you will get to know the traveler’s interests, preferences, and pace and help create time together that feels welcoming, flexible, and meaningful.
Applicants may be asked to provide their city and country, languages spoken, years of professional tour-guide experience, licenses or certifications, specialties, availability, professional profiles or websites, references, and reasons for wanting to become a Destination Host. Applicants may also be asked to submit a résumé or CV and relevant professional credentials.
Upon Arrival Travel will review your application and qualifications. Applicants who appear to be a good fit may be contacted for additional information or next steps in the vetting and approval process. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance into the Destination Host network.
The process may include an interview, identity verification, professional references, verification of tour-guide experience and credentials, and other screening measures where appropriate and legally permitted. The exact requirements may vary by destination.
